Breeds of Family Dogs

Dogs are man’s best friend indeed, thus, it is quite important for families to have family dogs.  Not all breeds can be made as family dogs.  Some are not as tame as the others that they are suitable as fight dogs; thus, they are not safe around children.  Size, however, is not an assurance on whether they are family dogs or not.  Even big dogs can be good.

Likewise, in choosing the best of the family dogs, allergies within the family must be considered wherein your doctor must be consulted first.  The need for maintenance is also important in choosing the breeds since dogs with long furs are harder to take care than those which have short furs.

Famous breeds of family dogs are the Golden retriever, Pembroke Welsh corgi, West Highland white terrier, Irish setter and Schnauzer.  Some of the characteristics associated in good them are that they enjoy family activities, love to play with kids, and eager to please and keep the family safe.  Family dogs also have a high sense of loyalty and faithfulness.  They also thrive for human companionship.

There have been times that they proved their worth in times of danger and crisis for they are willing to sacrifice themselves to save the family who takes care of them.  We often see in the news of family dogs which saved babies or children from disaster.  They are also capable of calling for help when a member of the family is in some kind of danger.

Family dogs have also been subjects of movies.  The most famous of them are, in my opinion is Lassie.  This dog starred in a television series which ran a considerable period of time in the 1980’s.  Lassie was a golden retriever which was known to help people who are in distress.
