Be the solution not the problem

The season Animal Welfare people dread is upon us again ‘Kitten Season’. Sadly so many healthy cats and kittens will be euthanised, just because people are not taking responsibility. Each and every year the same thing occurs, kittens start arriving early October, we then receive numerous telephone calls, ‘this stupid cat got herself pregnant’, if you do not take these kittens I am going to drown them’, ‘I am not paying to desex the cat, she was given to us for free, I am not spending money on her’. The excuses are unbelievable, they are the same year after year. We have personally noted that sites such as Gum Tree, Free Face Book give way sites and advertising walls in supermarkets that all give away free kittens have been more than detrimental. The majority of people, not the minority, pick up these free kittens and before you know it these ‘free kittens’ are pregnant themselves. There is an old saying ‘if you did not pay for something, then it has no value’. We are constantly hearing from people who have pregnant cats or unwanted litters, many callers have this terrible attitude ‘that it is not their problem,’ It is their problem, the cat belongs to them! You can help by desexing your cat and providing awareness to your family and friends. If you are looking for a cat or kitten, please support your local pound, shelter or rescue group.
